My favourite thing about farming is growing crops. From summer weed control, seeding, harvest and everything in-between. It is so rewarding to reflect on all of our hard work as we drive out the front gate to deliver our grain to the silos. We never stop learning in this game!

It’s Farmer Friday! MEET Peter Eckermann from Coomandook, SA!

Peter is Operations Manager at Vine Hill Pty Ltd. Peter and his boss, Steve Murray, farm 2500ha of wheat, barley, canola, beans, lupins and oaten hay, while also running 400 Merinos and crossbred lambs. Peter and Steve are passionate and driven towards farming, and helping others in the district. They are also hay contractors and help local farmers in the area.

“My wife and sons love coming out to work with me whenever they can. Sarah is a stay at home Mum which in itself is a full-time job! She somehow finds the time to help at the local school and kindy by being on committees and helping out with any fundraising jobs in the community.”

“Farming communities are always very quick to help each other out. Particularly in cases like fires or just to lend a hand to get you out of a pickle. We are very lucky to have the Coomandook Ag Bureau which is made up of an incredibly strong group of passionate and motivated members. We have a monthly meeting with a guest speaker to help educate us all on different issues we have an interest in.”
