I love the flexible lifestyle that being a farmer brings. Instead of being away for 6 months of the year, like in my previous line of work with the Airforce, I can now spend more time with my family.

It’s Farmer Friday! MEET Skeet Lawson from Pinnaroo, SA.

Skeet worked in the Australian Airforce for 13 years before moving with his wife, Phillipa, and their two daughters to a 4000 acre cropping enterprise in Pinnaroo.

The property belongs to Phillipa’s father, John, who has spent the last four years introducing Skeet to life on the farm. Leaping at the opportunity to learn new skills, Skeet is now responsible for most of the farm’s work and decisions.

Going from a demanding Airforce career to full-time farming is certainly a huge change in lifestyle—but Skeet says he hasn’t looked back!

“Being at work takes up a lot of your life, why not choose a career that makes you feel rewarded and passionate about what you can achieve?”

Living rurally has had a positive impact on Skeet’s general well-being, and his family love the community of Pinnaroo. Phillipa works as a local school teacher and they appreciate the support of the region’s like-minded farming families.
“Whether it’s sharing a beer or supporting each other through tough times, our community is brilliant.”
